USE OF STANDARD ACCESSORIES \ PARTS:
The use of standards in the modern mould & Die making industry is not an alternative but a necessity from the economic point of view in present days.
The application of standard components reduces the costing risk, because they are brought at fixed price and delivered on time. This makes it possible for tool making companies to concentrate on precision jobs, which helps to rationalize tool production operations on special machine tools.
Investment in modern rooms with latest CAD/CAM facilities and precision machines are only justified by manufacturing the critical part in a tool like core or cavity inserts but not with the standard items that can be purchased off-the-shelf.

STANDARD MOULD BASE
Standard mould accessories
In addition to the above mentioned standard mould plates and guide elements, there are large number of accessories which are used in moulds are standardized today. The list may be very extensive and some of them are as follows.
General Mould components: Locating units, Guide components including ball guide bushes, Guide rail, Wear plates, Springs and various spring plungers, Marking inserts with different designs are application, lifting devices, thermal insulating elements, etc.
Demoulding components: Ejector pins, Ejector sleeves and blades, Ejector coupling devices, Unscrewing components, Air valve, Pressure sleeves and bushes for early return mechanisms, Two-stage ejectors, Latch locking units, Mould Slides-Modular systems , Positive Locking cylinders for slide locking etc.
Gating and Heating Elements: Sprue bushings, Cold runner sprues for thermo set plastics, Heated Nozzles, Shut-off nozzles, Hot runner manifolds and accessories, Cartridge heaters, Standard gates inserts, etc.
Cooling Systems: Cooling connectors (couplings, nipples), Hoses, O-rings, spot cooling items like spiral and baffle cores, Heat pipes, etc.
Controlling and measuring elements: Microprocessor temperature controls units, Thermo couples, connecting cables housings and wiring boxes, Pressure and temperature measuring devices etc.
Auxiliary items and equipments: Mould assembly sets, Mould sprays, Marking inserts electrodes, Cooling hose and nipple assembly tools, Inspection pins, Gauge shims etc.

Mould Material
Without proper steel material proper mould cannot be achieved
Different mould materials are:
1. Mild steel
2. Alloy Steel etc.
Essential requirements of steel for moulds:
1. Excellent machinability
2. Excellent heat treatability
3. Good polishability
4. Good Compressive strength
5. High wear resistance
6. Surface corrosion resistance

The selection of steel for a particular mould depends on the requirements from:
1. Product Designer
2. Mould Designer
3. Mould Maker
4. Moulder

STEEL REQUIREMENTS
Product Designer                               Mould Designer
Surface Finish                                    Economy

Mould Maker                                     Moulder
Free from defects                              Wear resistance
Easy to machine and polish            Compressive strength
Stable in heat treatment                  Corrosion resistance
Suitable for EDM/etching                Thermal conductivity

Efficiency of mould
Depends on:
1. Design
2. Mould material selection
3. Estimated Injection temperature
4. Estimated Mould temperature
5. Estimated ejection temperature of the product
6. Coolant temperature and pressure
7. Estimated ambient temperature of mould plant.
