Polyacetal (PA)

POLYACETAL (PA):
Acetalpolymers are properly called polyoxymethylene (POM).
These resins are linear unbranched molecular chains derived from the monomer formaldehyde. The structure of homopolymer and copolymer are as follows:

          ------CH2-O-CH2 -O-CH2 -O-CH2------
                   Polyacetal homopolymer

         ------CH2  - O - CH2 - CH2 - O - CH2 ------
                          Polyacetal Copolymer
PROPERTIES:
1. Excellent combination of toughness, rigidity, fatigue, strength and yield strength (spring like qualities)
2. Good wear resistance
3. Low co-efficient of friction
4. Service Temperature Range 90 - 1200 .C
5. Good dimensional stability over wide temperature -400.C to 650 .C
6. Good moisture and chemical resistance
7. Good electrical insulation
8. Easy processable with conventional technique
9. Excellent dimensional accuracy and post moulding stability.

APPLICATIONS OF POLYACETALS
1. Gears
2. Bearing boxes and bushes
3. Switch relays, terminal blocks and coil formers
4. Blower fans, ventilation fans and pump parts
5. Parts for office machines, house hold appliances and bathroom fittings
6. Hinges
7. Springs, snap fittings, screw
8. Curtain rail runners
9. Aerosol nozzles
10. Nuclear engineering applications
11. Plumbing fittings and components for pneumatic systems
12. Automobile components such as radiator heater tapes, water filter bodies, fuel contact applications
13. In irrigation system used in the areas of compression fittings, jets and sprayers
14. Clock and watch parts.

POLYACETAL BLENDS:

POM/TPU BLENDS
1. High impact strength
2. High fatigue, flexural and tensile strength
3. Low water absorbency
4. Good resistance to oils, greases and many chemicals
5. Most blends contain 10-30 wt. % of TPU
6. Blends have co-continuous morphology for good performance
